Cholla are very common succulents in the Sonoran Desert. This is one type of Cholla, Buckhorn cholla (Opuntia acanthocarpa). Cholla occupy dry hillslopes on the south side of Tempe Butte. Do not try to touch or go close to cholla. They often hitch-hike on shoes, pants, and even skin. |
