Tempe Butte Stop 2 - Mesquite

Tempe Butte Stop 2 - Mesquite (Prosopis sp.)

Mesquite, the Prosopis genus, can take the form of a large shrub or a tree.  It requires a lot more water than cacti and desert shrubs.  Mesquite tends to grow close to the dry washes on Tempe Butte.  In this way, when it rains, mesquite and other plants with deep roots can soak up all the water that is funneled into the washes.
